“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”  Matthew 25:35-36

Serving others is a way to serve Christ in the world. Our most public outreach is our hot lunch program, The Welcome Table. Every day, Christ Cathedral distributes several dozen lunches to the homeless and others facing food insecurity in Salina. This program is staffed by volunteers from Christ Cathedral as well as several other area churches and operates with assistance from the Emergency Food Bank and other area agencies. To assist with this program or you have have questions, please contact Cat Thornton 949-842-5467.

In addition to The Welcome Table, we support several programs which help people in need. We are located next door to the Ashby House, a multifaceted shelter program for homeless families that grew out of the Cathedral to become an independent social services organization. We host Ashby House residents for a monthly cooking class that teaches participants how to adopt a healthy and more cost-efficient approach to food. A rotating group of parishioners also does the weekly grocery shopping for Ashby House. We host an annual Christmas Dinner for Ashby House residents. If you would like to assist the Ashby House, call (785) 826-4935 or email Kathy.Allen@ashby.kscoxmail.com.

Each year at Christmas, Christ Cathedral sponsors a giving tree for children in the care of St. Francis Community Services. Parishioners “adopt” a child by taking an ornament from a tree in the Parish Hall with a list of items that make Christmas a bit brighter for these children. Several 12-Step programs also use our facilities. For information about meeting times, contact the cathedral office.
